Toni’s Kitchen Garden is Growing Strong!

june 2016 c
The Toni’s Kitchen garden has undergone a complete renewal for this year’s planting season, thanks to the incredibly hard work of Max South.  Max is an Eagle Scout in Montclair, and took on the renovation and restoration of the TK Garden.  Max also raised the funds needed to build the garden.

First, Max and a team of fellow Scouts completely removed the structure of the existing garden (railroad ties, chicken wire, steel posts, etc.).  Then, the team built a new wooden framed fence made with heavy fencing wire.  Next came the weeding, aerating of the soil and mixing in nutrients to get the ground ready for planting.

Now the season is under way.  Tomatoes are growing, beans, peas and broccoli are coming up great…and so is the corn!  Soon the guests of Toni’s Kitchen will be able to enjoy the fruits (and vegetables!) of the labor of Max and his team of Scouts!

The space for Toni’s Kitchen garden is donated from our friends at HomeCorp.  Volunteer Tonia Stigeler oversees the garden.

Many thanks to Max South for his incredible work on getting our garden ready for the season!
